Styropack Win Prestigious Award

We are delighted to have been awarded a prestigious silver award at the Institute of Packaging's 2005 Starpack Awards.

The winning pack was our universal EPS and timber cooker pack which was designed for one of our major customers Glen Dimplex Cooking Ltd who had a large customer return problem with their free standing "slide-in" cooker product.

The level of customer returns (200 per month) was costing Glen Dimplex in terms of damages and rework (£100k pa).

To understand the problem we undertook an extensive study of the current pack, looking at how it performed under test conditions using our in-house design and test facilities. We then investigated how it performed through the supply chain. Specific attention was given to the handling of the product at every stage.

The new design incorporated interlocking EPS mouldings with timber skeleton supports. The pack was a universal design to fit the 50 variants of free standing standard and range models. The new universal corner protectors and top/base mouldings improved the overall cushioning and protection.

Due to the fact that all customers along the supply chain were involved in some way with the design process, and that they have now seen the cost benefits from the new pack, it has been very well received by all.
